umfang is a music producer and dj based in nyc. focused on an affection for heavy records from the past, she has performed in clubs, institutions and festivals in over 20 countries including berghain berlin, contact tokyo, dekmantel amsterdam, moma ps1 nyc, southbank centre london, dimensions festival croatia. she frequently plays in nyc at basement, public records, and paragon.
in addition to djing she has produced 6 albums. known for amorphous, polyrhythmic soundscapes, she has scored for runway, art exhibitions, and dance performances.
in 2014 umfang cofounded artist agency and platform discwoman which aimed to offset representational imbalances within the music industry. she founded a digital music label 'thanks for enlightening me' in march 2020.
her work has been covered in the new yorker, forbes, fact, resident advisor, npr, pitchfork, and i.d.
